My temple holds an auction as a fundraising event each year and so far my annual contribution has been a custom cake. Last year I made a ladybug cake for a sweet little first birthday cake. This year’s cake was for a birthday as well. I was given very specific instructions from an almost-seven-year-old which read, “rainbow cake inside with both vanilla and chocolate filling, and absolutely no berries, except maybe as a decoration on the horse’s mane or tail.” Alright then.
Building on my experiences from a recently made lion cake, this little horsey wasn’t too hard to make. The body itself is the aforementioned rainbow cake (funfetti for the Duncan Hines crowd) and the head is made of an entire batch of rice crispy treats. I carved everything freehand and then crossed my fingers. It all came together rather nicely if I do say so myself. Hopefully the birthday girl enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it!
