Reassessment (274/366)

Ok, I fell asleep in the middle of writing this, so I’m a little late.

There were too many possible title options. Too many things happened today.

First off, the hotel. I’m not sure a building could have thinner walls. This coupled with the thirty person post college reunion that was going on outside our window resulted in a middle of the night wake up call.

We managed to hit the road at a good time and make our way to Northampton. However, seven miles into our trip, Andrew’s pannier fell off his bike. We improvised diet the moment, but that was not going to work for the remainder of the trip.

After our meeting in Northampton, we had to stick around for a while until a bike shop opened so we could get Andrew some new panniers. It was a little after twelve by the time we hit the road.

It WA going great until we realized we had been going in the wrong direction. After a ten mile detour, we were on our way.

The first party of the ride was great. We we’re mostly on bike paths and the routes were beautiful.

And then we hit Granby, CT. We had 15 miles to go from Granby to our hotel. It was horrible. We encountered at least three hills that just kept going. 3 miles long and neverending. I was concerned, we weren’t going to make it.

Finally, after lots of rests, walking up hills, and considering asking the fire department for a ride, e made it to our haven.

The Old Riverton Inn is adorable and we are one of two guests here. The entire town is quaint. We were possibly delirious with hunger and pain by the time e got here so we are an enormous dinner and came back here while I passed our immediately.

And here’s the kicker: we’re reassessing the trip. After getting our butts kicked on the first day, we realized, it just wasn’t fun. We think we may have overextended ourselves a bit. So we’re going to look over our route and see as far a we can get while still having good time. We’ll rent a car to get us back to MD when the tone is right.
