Tonight, Meri and I headed into the city to go to the Smitten Kitchen book signing.
I’m not sure how long I’ve been reading Smitten Kitchen, but it’s been a good long while. Melissa, Elise, Jen, and I have been exchanging recipes for a while now, so when I realized she was coming to town to talk about her new cookbook, it was a no-brainer.
Meri and I got there about 45 minutes before the talk was scheduled to start, and my oh my, it was PACKED. Like, squish-us-in-like-sardines-packed. It was also about 98% female. I suppose that is to be expected.
Deb gave a brief intro about her blog and what goes into making Smitten Kitchen work and then did a question and answer session. And yes, I was sitting behind a pole the entire time.
She was delightful and adorable and a teensy bit nervous. People laughed, (no one cried), and I got really really hungry. After talking for about 35 minutes, the long wait began. They sort of herded us around the store into a mob that eventually became a line. After about 2 hours of waiting, Meri and I were able to get the chat with Deb for a few moments while she signed our books.
It was nice to get to catch up with Meri (her life is more confusing than mine) and we got a truly beautiful cookbook out of it too. The pictures are awesome and the recipes sound delectable. It was almost enough to make me want to go home and cook something.
But I got home at 11 PM so I had a bowl of Cookie Crisp. You can’t win ’em all.
