Yesterday was a good day. In the morning I finally had my taekwondo tournament. I competed in the Maryland State Qualifier and came in first place!
Of course my opponent didn’t actually show up to the tournament…but I qualified to Nationals this summer, so I’m not going to complain. I think everyone on my team qualified so we’re gonna be a strong team come July!
When I got home, I opened the door to smell of frying oil. Jim, Elise, and Andrew had started on Fried Day. It was a bit more subdued than previous Fried Days, but there was still plenty of fried goodness going on. Andrew was on his second batch of fries and Elise started on the fried shrimp.
Elise started by putting and salt and pepper on the shrimp. She then dipped the shrimp in a mixture of flour and paprika.
Next the shrimp took a dip into some beaten eggs before finally getting a coating of panko bread crumbs.
Elise got a pound of shrimp. A pound of shrimp is A LOT of shrimp.
From there, Andrew took over. He carefully put the shrimp into the basket of the deep fryer, being sure not to overlap them or fill the basket too much so they would cook evenly. He fried them for about 5 minutes at 375 degrees in canola oil.
I must say, they came out beautifully. We then proceeded to eat almost the entire pound of shrimp with some sweet chili sauce for dipping. Perfect.
