Tonight we traveled around the world. Ok, mostly we traveled to Western Europe. And we didn’t actually go anywhere.
After planning this potluck for well over five years, we finally pulled it off. Tonight was the much awaited Around-the-World Potluck. The idea is that each person brings some food from where they’re from or whatever culture they associate themselves with and we get to try new stuff. Turns out a lot of my friends are white people from Europe.
And I had a major photography fail. Somehow amongst all of the excitement I forgot to take pictures of much of the actual food. So you’ll have to take my word for it that the food was top-notch and a great variety. Here’s what was on the menu:
- Simmie (Korean and Jewish): Bulgogi with rice and sauteed spinach and kugal
- Andrew (Scottish): Scotch
- Abels (Irish): Shepherds Pie and Guinness
- Elise (Russian): Potato blintzes
- Melissa (Italian): Bruschetta
- Meri (Italian): Focaccia
- Betsy (American): Caramel brownies
- Mel (Long Island, NY): Long Island Ice Tea
I stuffed myself silly. Now it’s 11:15, I’m food drunk, and ready for sleep. Haha, I’m a party animal.

My friends just made a trip to the vending machine. Watching them eat food is making me a little queasy…
