This is my airbrush. Which means I’m back to making cakes. Haven’t made one in a while, so it was nice to get the creative juices flowing again.
I use the airbrush mainly to finish off cakes. When I roll out fondant, I use corn starch to prevent it from sticking to the counter. However, that means my fondant is covered in corn starch when I roll it onto the cake. After brushing as much off as I can with a paper towel, I usually take a mixture of vodka (because it evaporates faster than water) and some edible shimmer dust and spray it on the cake. It cleans off the corn starch and gives the cake a little sparkle.
This little air compressor is handy because it fits nicely on the countertop. When I first got my airbrush I used an industrial air compressor that I bought at Home Depot to work a nail gun. It was super loud and probably 50 times too powerful, but it worked. Eventually that thing bit the dust and upgraded (downgraded?) to an appropriately cake sized compressor. I definitely use it more now because it’s more convenient, but I haven’t gotten into airbrushing color too much. Perhaps for another cake?

I now expect you to build your own airbrush.
It can join the carbonator 😉
