There are so many things to say about this picture. Where do I start? Let’s just go for it.

1. What does a dragon have to do with a soccer ball?

Nothing really.

2. Then why is that cake a dragon and a soccer ball?

Because this cake was made for my co-worker Bruce. He’s one of seven people in my group who is turning 50 this year. A special committee was formed to aid in all of the birthday partying. The CSI (Committee for Special Initiatives) is going with a theme for each party. It really gives you a good glance at how your coworkers see you by what theme is chosen. So for Bruce, we know that Bruce likes soccer. We also know that Bruce reads a lot of fantasy novels. So naturally, a soccer playing dragon it is.

3. Why does the dragon have purple spots?

Because the soccer team Bruce plays on is Team Purple.

4. Why does that dragon look kind of scared?

I definitely went more down the Puff-the-Magic-Dragon route with this dragon as opposed to the ferocious, fire-breathing dragon. Perhaps he’s a little afraid of getting smacked in the nose with the soccer ball.

5. Why is the picture kind of blurry?

Because when you take a picture at 7 in the morning after going to bed at 1 AM, it’s hard to tell if things are in the focus on the tiny display on the back of the camera. And if you don’t actually look at the pictures on a larger screen before 10 PM at night, you’re stuck with what you’ve got. But here’s a different angle that is marginally more in focus:
