So I got up at 6 AM to watch the Delta IV launch. I figured out we had a pretty good vantage point from my balcony, so instead of fighting the traffic and potentially getting lost or stuck, I decided I would just stroll outside and watch the launch. The launch was scheduled for 6:13 AM, so at 6:10 I walked out to take a look. And it didn’t go. There was a problem.
We got word that it was then delayed until 6:50. At 6:50, it didn’t go. There was another problem.
Delayed until 7:59. At 7:59, it didn’t go.
By then I figured I had to actually go to work so I hopped in my car and headed north. There was no news as to when the new launch window would be, so I decided if I caught it, I caught it, if I didn’t, oh well. When I got to work, the launch had been rescheduled for 9:15. I sort of stopped paying attention until I heard the TV say, “3, 2, 1 and LIFTOFF!” and which point I ran out of the office to the parking lot where a group of my coworkers had gathered.
When I got there, the nation’s biggest rocket was a speck in the sky. It left a pretty spectacular trail of smoke though and the rumble could be heard even where we were, miles and miles away.
Then, on the way back to the office we found this gigantic grasshopper crippled on the sidewalk. Someone wanted me to step on it, but the thought of that makes me squeamish. Yuck. So instead we flipped him over and hoped he would be able to limp away. I’m just saying, the bugs is Florida are unbelievable.
