We worked a long day today, so by the time I got home, a lot of the Independence Day festivities were over. The one thing that wasn’t over, was the fireworks.
I have a confession to make – I don’t really like fireworks. I’ve gone to see them every year for my entire life on the 4th of July, but they’re just not something that really floats my boat. Something about the loud booms, coupled with the unvarying quality of fireworks just kind of bores me. I like to watch for about three minutes and I’m set for the year.
However, today when I got home, there were dozens of people lining the beach, setting off their own fireworks. Having grown up in Massachusetts, where fireworks are illegal, I’ve heard plenty of stories about people blowing their hands off when playing with fireworks that I am sufficiently afraid of them. But there were people out there setting them off over and over again. And not just sparklers, but big, BIG fireworks. It was kind of cool though. The randomness and anticipation of when the next one was going to go up kept my interest longer than usual.
But they’re nearing on two and half hours with these fireworks now…I think I’ve had my fill.
P.S. Apparently no one at work could figure out what these cupcakes were. I was probably asked 15 times what the straw was for. Darn it. You win some, you lose some.
