Tonight Andrew had his first game of the season for the hockey league he joined this year. It’s a beginner league, so the teams are supposed to be pretty evenly matched. Andrew is on the Silver Team and it’s made up most of newcomers to the league this year. Their first opponent was the White Team who have been together for more than a year. They were the best team in the league last year. They even got their own spiffy uniforms. Looking at them, it was like looking at the Hawks versus District 5. However, unlike the early version of the Might Ducks, the Silver Team held their own during the game. They didn’t win, but they won their fair share of face-offs, kept up reasonably well, and scored a goal.
Andrew played Wing and Center for the game and did pretty well. He’s definitely one of the faster guys on the team and had a number of breakaways as he zoomed past the other team. Unfortunately, since he’s so much faster than everyone else, once he got into the attacking zone, there was no one for him to pass the puck to (haha, I sound so knowledgable about hockey). He did connect one time and had an assist. Go Andrew! He was so nervous before the game, but he did such a good job!
The season is 20 weeks long, plus playoffs, so there’s lots of time for Andrew and the team to improve. I think they have a lot of potential, so it’ll be cool to see how things change as the season progresses. Also, I’m going to be the mascot.
