I got a last minute cake request this week to make a Mario Brothers cake. Actually, it was to make a Super Smash Brothers cake. Being that I never got past level 1-2 of the original Mario Brothers, I had no idea what Super Smash Brothers was. Andrew gave me the quick and dirty low-down which resulted in me just getting more confused. As far as I can tell, it’s some sort of crazy fighting game with every Mario Brothers character and other assorted cartoons ever.

Given that this was a last minute request, we went a little simpler. I think this is the first time I have ever made a sheet cake. It’s kind of crazy. I once tried to sculpt a Mario which had pretty disastrous results so to make my life easier, I stuck a few Mario figures on top. This was probably the fastest cake I ever decorated. I think it took me more time to make all of the different colors than to actually pipe them on the cake.
