Tonight a group of us headed out to the city to celebrate Andrew’s new job. We ended up at a place called Jaleo in Penn Quarter. Jaleo is a tapas place. We’d been to the one in Bethesda before and it was really good, so we had no reason to expect otherwise.
The food was good. We ordered a bunch of different things and passed them all around. We had good variety and plenty of food.
The place…eh. This version of Jaleo is the super trendy version. Our table was a foosball table with a large piece of glass on top. We sat in funny saddle like chairs with no backs. There was all sort of abstract modern art installations on the walls and the place felt a little to hip for my liking. The chairs were moderately uncomfortable and the table was designed such that a tall person couldn’t really get his legs underneath it. We all sat so far away from each other that it was hard to talk. But we had good company, so it was a good evening.
Because of our celebratory dinner, I had less time than usual to prepare my cupcakes for oneg this week. I still wanted to do something interesting, so above is my something interesting. I have to take better pictures in the morning when there’s better lighting, but this was a pretty quick process that results in a lovely finish.
