So this cake reveal is going to be a three-parter. I’m holding off on taking pictures of the whole cake until tomorrow when I’ll get to take advantage of natural light. That opportunity doesn’t come about all that often considering I’m generally a middle-of-the-night baker.
Despite the adorable (and conveniently) placed owls of yesterday’s post, the toppers for this cake are actually supposed to be little cats. I was given a picture of the well-loved pets and this is my attempt at recreating them in fondant.
This is going to sound ridiculous and a little self-congratulatory, but I’m honestly always surprised with how well things come out when I try to sculpt them. I never advanced past Play-Dough (where the colors could never actually mix. Unsurprisingly, I was super anal about the colors not touching, much like my food.) in sculpting. So when it comes to fondant figurines I sort of just go for it and hope for the best. But I’m really proud of these cats. They’re cute and mostly proportional.
Oh and hey! The owls are still lurking back there.
