During the week before our wedding, when I was elbow deep in cake batter and icing, I got an email requesting if I could make a last minute cake. As I was a 500 miles away and teensy bit preoccupied I had to decline the request, but a few months later I got another request for a birthday for a first birthday.
She requested some music along with her cake. I’ve discovered a new way to add music to the cake where I can record anything I want. It’s pretty cool. Also, now there are endless possibilities for sounds effects with cake. I’m totally going to try to make one that screeches when you try to cut it. Or a cuckoo clock or something? I think this could get out of hand really fast.
I also sculpted a little fondant Curious George for the top. You guys, sculpting a tiny monkey is really hard. I think I went through at least five or six versions of this before I finally settled on a something that still resembled a monkey. The hat is made out of gumpaste which kept its shape remarkably well. The little bananas are also sculpted out of gumpaste.
One of the little bananas hid the button to make the music play.
Here’s a little video of the music playing.
