Andrew and I both have Fitbit activity trackers. It counts how many steps you take in a day with a goal of 10,000 steps each day.
On a normal day where I don’t try to get any additional steps, I average about 5000-6000 steps. I guess that’s what happens when you sit in front of a computer all day. Andrew averages closer to the 8000-9000 step mark because of his commute via public transportation as opposed to mine in a car.
On derby days though, I can usually make the 10,000 step goal. The Fitbit buzzes a little and all five dots light up when you reach you goal and it never fails to excite me a little.
I have to admit the activity tracker doesn’t always motivate me to get up and get a few more steps in (like when it’s 8 degrees out) but I’ll definitely park further away at the grocery store or take the long route somewhere sometimes to up my daily average before I camp out on the couch. I’ve been wearing it for about five months now and it’s really fascinating to look back at the boatloads of info they collect for you. I don’t even use the full functionality of the Fitbit website because there’s just so much information to keep track of.
Today was a successful day. I reached my goal and the website told me I was a champ, so I’m gonna take it.
