Have you ever heard of a lemon stick? Yeah, me either.
This is a lemon stick:
It’s a half of a lemon with a peppermint stick shoved into the center. Since the peppermint stick is porous, when you suck on it, you also get a little bit of lemon juice. This results in a surprisingly refreshing sweet and sour treat.
Apparently lemon sticks are a Baltimore thing. And apparently they’re a big deal at the Flowermart in Baltimore, which in itself is apparently kind of a big deal. Jen and I went up to Baltimore this afternoon to volunteer at the Flowermart. Jen’s mom was working there and needed some volunteers to help with a couple of the booths. Her mom was heading up the Lemon Stick booth, but Jen and I ended up volunteering at the kid’s activity table.
We ended up spending the afternoon making paint handprints, coloring, making Mother’s Day cards, decorating crowns, and most importantly, making each other gimp keychains. As thanks for our time, Jen’s mom gave us each a Lemon Stick was a good thing because they ended up running out of lemons.
The Flowermart turned out to a pretty nice festival. There were a number of booths selling crafts, soaps, jewelry, and other assorted crafty things. I was all about this hanging loveseat chair thing and was thisclose to buying one, but I figured I should get some input from Andrew first. They are super comfortable though! All in all, it was a fun, although not super eventful day. The weather was nice, the company was good, and now I feel like I’ve experienced yet one more Baltimore’s quirky little events.
