This afternoon was Melissa’s wedding shower. Jen and I did most of the planning to give Meri a break after planning a fabulous bachelorette party. The Darster graciously allowed us to hold the shower at her house and it was great. It was so fun to have everyone together to celebrate with Melissa.
We kept it classic with a paper banner. We used burlap backing to give it a little flare and add a little rustic look to it.
For some reason it was very important to me that we have balloons (it was not that important). This led to us having an adventure with the cranky balloon lady at Wegmans where Elise got yelled at for touching the ribbon (don’t touch the ribbon) and I got sharp with the lady after impatiently waiting for her to show up to blow up our balloons for 10 minutes. The adventure continued when we had to cram four of us into the car with 13 balloons and leave some sort of visibility for Jen. I think we should have tried for an even two dozen though.
Jen made rosemary infused olive oil to give out as favors. It looks awesome.
Elise lent her artistic talent to make sure everyone knew what was in each drink pitcher. She also created a refreshing signature gin cocktail with muddled basil and a simple syrup. It was perfect for the day.
I was in charge of dessert. I made cake pops (so easy!) in Melissa’s wedding colors and after immediately hearing Melissa tell me about decorating with moss, I drove to the craft store and bought some moss to garnish the pop display. It was real moss. This was not clear to me when I bought it. It became clear to me when I open it up and dirt fell out.
I also made macarons. Just cause I felt like it. The pink ones are raspberry filled and the green ones were chocolate fudge filled. Also, macarons are so pretty.
Melissa and her little sister, Meri looked remarkably similar as children. We played a game where you had to guess who was who and I know it was a success because Meri got one wrong.
Today also happens to be my birthday. Meri made me homemade ice cream sandwiches with homemade cookies and homemade ice cream. They were soooo goood!
When I got home, Andrew had gotten me an ice cream cake. We didn’t have any candles though, so he had to improvise. It totally worked!
This was a very busy, fun, and exciting weekend. Hooray for Melissa! I’m looking forward to the wedding in a few weeks!
