Andrew and I went out to dinner tonight at Food Wine & Company with plans for a movie afterwards. Dinner was great. They have quite an eclectic menu, an extensive beer and wine list, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. I ordered the steak with spinach, potatoes, chimichurri sauce and an onion ring. Andrew ordered the scallop salad.
We really like to bend the gender norms when we go out to eat. Often I will order a steak and Andrew will order a salad. I drink regular coke, he drinks diet coke. Nearly every time we do this, he ends up with my meal and I end up with his.
This time was no different. We chuckled and switched plates and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. After dinner we went to the movies. I tricked Andrew into seeing The Fault In Our Stars because he had no idea what it was about. By the end of the movie, the entire theater was weeping. My contact lens got all folded up in my eye and was irritating which made it look like I too was a teary-eyed moviegoer. I mean, I totally was, but the contact thing really happened too.
With our crazy schedule this summer, we haven’t had a lot of opportunities to go out like this and it was nice. After multiple weeks away, it’s going to be good to get to just relax and enjoy the weekend and be back in our regular routine. It’s not long until we’re off and running again, so best to enjoy it while we can.
