Today was an unexpectedly exhausting day. In the morning, I went out for a quick run and quickly experienced how hard running at altitude is, especially up hill.
After a little break and some breakfast Andrew, Johnny, and I went out for what we thought was a short hike to the Erman mansion. What we thought was about a mile hike each way, turned into a five mile roundtrip stroll. It was nice to spend some time outside. The weather is cool and pleasant, but not quite warm enough for swimming.
Today was also Andrew’s Aunt Patti’s birthday. She’s a big San Francisco Giants fan, so for her birthday I made her a jersey cake. It was my first experience with high altitude cake baking and it was really a mixed bag in terms of success.
We had a celebratory dinner and birthday party for her in the evening with singing and gifts and birthday cake.
The sunset this evening was great. Barbara and I spent some time on the dock taking pictures and trying to capture the rapidly changing sky as the sun set. It was spectacular.
It’s early to bed, because Courtney, Alex, Andrew, and I are getting up before dawn to go home up Eagle Rock to watch the sunrise.
