I had my first try at light writing today. When you read tutorials online, it seems so simple, but there are so many settings to tweak, that’s it’s not quite as easy as I was hoping.
The light source is pretty important. Things that are really bright will illumination too much of the room and you end up with a half lit room with some writing in the foreground. I ended up using the display on my cell phone because it didn’t have too wide of a range, but the light source is really, really big. I think a glow stick might work pretty well. My little flashlight gave everything a yellow hazy light.
I tried a few other designs as well.
All I can say, is that the name “Simmie” has A LOT of bumps in it. My name generally came out looking like “Simmmme”.
It was a fun little experiment though. I’d like to try it with a different light source, and do it outside in a wide open field or something. I think that would cut down on the illumination of the surroundings. And maybe, just maybe, I might be able to fit “simmiecakes” into the entire photograph.
