I have a few anniversaries in my life:
July 17 – Work Anniversary
December 23 – My first date with Andrew
December 24 – Adoption Anniversary
Yup, my adoption became legal on December 24th. If we weren’t Jewish, I think this would probably be a bit more poignent, but we are Jewish, so it’s a day we take at face value. It’s still an awesome day.
The Jackster and I have been celebrating this for as long as I can remember. Any by celebrate, it mostly means my mom buys me a gift. For a long time as a little kid, I thought my mom felt bad that all of my Christmas celebrating friends received piles of gifts on Christmas morning from Santa and I got nothing. So I used to think she left me a gift, so I wouldn’t think Santa completely forgot me.
Finally when I was about eleven, I confronted my mom about this ruse she had been putting up for a while. I think I was all like, “Mom, why do you think I’m going to feel bad if I don’t get a Christmas present?” and I imagine she was all like, “What? Huh? What are you talking about?”
So it was then that the whole tradition was explained to me. I like the real story a lot more than the one I made up in my head.
