I have a wedding cake to make this week. I’m supposed to be delivering it on Friday, so tonight I got down to baking. The bride wanted six separate cakes instead of a tiered cake which makes it easier to transport, but results in needing to bake more cakes that making one the traditional way. In order to get enough servings, I have to make six cakes. Each cake is two layers so in total I had to bake twelve cakes. I got home and cranked them out this evening.
Luckily, I have plenty of pans on hand for such an occasion.
We’ve been watching a lot of Dexter lately so when I looked in the sink and saw this, I could really only think of one thing. Kind of morbid, huh? Half of the cakes are red velvet cake which requires a special combination of cocoa powder, baking soda, and red food dye to give it its distinctive color.
All twelve cakes are baked and are cooling so I can get to decorating tomorrow evening. Luckily the design isn’t too intricate but it’s going to put my icing skills to the test. I have a feeling tomorrow’s pictures are going to be “So Much Icing”.
